MOTHERS will hold a superhero-themed fundraiser for childhood cancer research in Eglinton this weekend.
Eglinton resident Jane Hunt and Chantelle St James, of Alkimos, are organising their second Cupcakes for a Cure event this Sunday, with help from Cinzia Bulegato, of Eglinton.
Mrs Hunt said September was Childhood Cancer Awareness month and they hoped to raise $1500 for the Kids Cancer Project on September 10.
“We want the kids to come dressed up as superheroes,” she said.
“We have a great family event planned, with loads of entertainment: face painters, superheroes, reptiles, animal farm, sport activities,
soft play equipment and much more.”
Her son Thomas (3) was diagnosed with cancer of the soft tissue, or rhabdomyosarcoma, in January 2016 and had chemotherapy last year.
“He is now thankfully 12 months in remission,” she said.
Mrs Hunt said funds raised would go towards research into treatment.
There will be a raffle, while the cupcakes will cost $3-4 each.
