$5m federal road funding boost

North Coast Times - - BUDGET REPORT -

LOCAL councils will receive almost $5 million for roads projects from the Federal Government.

The 2017-18 round of Roads to Recovery funding includes $3.34 million for the City of Wanneroo and $1.59 million for the City of Joondalup.

That funding included $1.8 million for the now-completed Neerabup Road widening project through Clarkson, which cost a total of $2.5 million.

There is also $330,000 to upgrade Wesco Road in Nowergup.

“Our older established suburbs have roads in need of repairs, maintenance and safety improvements,” Moore MHR Ian Goodenough said.

“Local government relies on the federal government to assist with meeting part of the cost of maintaining the suburban road network.

“This program is over and above other streams of federal road funding, including the Black Spot Program, which is more heavily assessed on road safety criteria.”
