Nothing keeps Jaice from football

North Coast Times - - SPORT -

JAICE McGibbon takes a fearless approach to his football and it earns him admiration from coaches and umpires alike.

The 15-year-old Clarkson resident is regularly among the best players on the ground, having a big influence for Quinns Bulls in the Year 10 competition of local junior football.

Coach Mick Robis labelled the youngster “a very tough player”.

“Jaice is a great kid and I really enjoy coaching and helping him develop his football skills,” he said.

“I love the way he goes about his footy… he never backs out of a contest and is always hard at the ball.”

Jaice’s preferred position is as a ruckman, but Robis said his versatility and height allowed him to play most key positions on the ground.

The teenager has aspirations to progress to elite football after high school and Robis backed him to take the next step.

“With a bit of commitment and dedication I believe he has the potential to have a great career at a high level of football,” he said.

Jaice lives with his grandmother Sylvia McGibbon, who was proud of her grandson’s attitude towards his sporting passion.

“Jaice is very dedicated, his dream is to play professional AFL,” she said. “He walks to training at Anthony Waring Park twice a week - we don't have a car. He will play on with injuries against my wishes, but his want for the game is incredibly strong.”

Jaice is a nominee in the Community Newspaper Group’s Local Sports Star awards.
