Expansion to continue
THERE is no provision to expand Joondalup Health Campus in the 2017-18 State Budget or forward estimates.
However, JHC chief executive Kempton Cowan said detailed clinical service and capital planning work for an expansion continued following the co-signing of a ‘statement of intent’ by the State Government and Ramsay Health Care.
“It is anticipated subsequent Budgets will include the required funding once timeframes for the delivery of this investment and associated service enhancements have been approved by the State Government,” he said.
Before the State Election in March, WA Labor promised $167 million for the hospital, including building a Medihotel, opening an urgent care clinic, providing another 90 public beds and eight more operating theatres. It also wanted to increase the number of mental health beds by 25 to 30, increase parking bays and open a six-bed stroke unit.
The Budget did not include funding for those projects, but listed ongoing works with about $24.1 million over two years for the paediatric ward and more than $17 over four years for the mental health observation area.
Health Minister Roger Cook said the projects would be in the forward estimates once they had been scoped properly.
