Children sought for dairy study

North Coast Times - - NEWS -

ECU researchers are looking for child volunteers for a study into the effect of dairy foods on gut and heart health.

The Milky Way Study researchers have asked parents and carers of children aged four to six who regularly consume dairy foods to volunteer, providing free health checks and a three-month supply of dairy foods for those taking part.

Lead researcher Therese O’Sullivan said the study had been designed to inform the participants as well as their parents as much as possible.

“We have developed a short video for children to watch beforehand and a picture booklet that explains the process of the study,” she said.

“We also allocate a researcher specifically to focus on the child during clinic visits to monitor how they are feeling and give support and information.

“Children know what is coming up so there are no surprises and they are encouraged to ask questions.”
