Coastal tenders on agenda
THE Wanneroo City Council will tonight consider awarding a tender to build and extend groynes at Quinns Beach.
The long-term coastal protection works project will include three stages of works, starting with construction of a fourth groyne north of existing structures and beach access ramp this financial year.
It proposes a 45m extension to the second groyne in 2018-19 and 15m extension to the third one in 2019-20.
Each year would also include works to add sand to the beach – 8400 cubic metres in 2017-18, then 14,400 and 10,800 respectively the following two years.
Four tender submissions were received for the almost $7.75 million project.
The works are part of a long-term strategy to prevent severe coastal erosion as occurred in 2013.
