New lease of life

SPORTS CLUB GETS TENURE

North Coast Times - - NEWS -

YANCHEP Sports and Social Club (YSSC) has secured a longer lease from the City of Wanneroo, which could help it in grant applications.

The council recently agreed to terminate the existing lease for the Yanchep Beach Road site and approve a 10-year lease, with a 5000sq m portion of the block excised.

The report said the club wanted to expand membership numbers and was negotiating with the Yanchep Community Men’s Shed about subleasing part of the site north of the bowling greens to the shed.

It said the club, which formed in 1976, still had about four years remaining on the existing lease.

“This perceived lack of security of tenure is impeding its growth and development, especially in regards to the YSSC’s proposed grant applications for additional sport and recreation facilities,” it said.

According to the October council report, the 32,000sq m lot had a clubhouse with licensed bar, carpark, two grass bowling greens, three storage containers and a toilet block.

It said the club would continue to have a $1 per year peppercorn lease for the site, but also start paying an annual maintenance fee of $3200, with the City taking on all maintenance responsibilities under its leasing policy.
