Funds for skate parks
GOVT INCREASES PROJECT FUNDING
YANCHEP will soon have more activities for youth with the State Government providing funding for a skate park and the City of Wanneroo calling for tenders to build a playground.
During the State Election campaign, Butler MLA John Quigley promised to give the City $300,000 to build a skate park at Yanchep.
“I have persuaded the Premier to up that amount by 50 per cent so I now have available $450,000,” he said.
“I’ve had discussions with the City of Wanneroo so I will hand over that $450,000 and their workers will build it.”
Mr Quigley said the skate park would be adjacent to the new football ovals in Yanchep, but the City’s community and place director Debbie Terelinck said the location was yet to be determined.
“The City of Wanneroo is currently investigating potential sites within Yanchep,” she said.
“The exact dates of delivery will be determined by a number of factors, including community consultation, site selection and planning approval requirements.
“Funding requirements will be dependent upon final design and project outcomes.
“As a cost comparison, the recent skate park project in Wanneroo and a proposed project in Banksia Grove were both costed at $600,000.”
Mrs Terelinck said the playground tender related to construction of a play space at the Yanchep playing fields.
“The playground will be constructed during the final stage of the Yanchep active open space project,” she said.
