Cafe spreads its wings
THE first foreshore cafe in Alkimos is expanding its premises at Waterfront Park.
Thomas Construction has won the contract to build the Shore Cafe expansion, which is expected to have more space and longer trading hours.
It will add about 650sq m to the building, including public toilets, indoor dining, a bigger kitchen, coffee roaster, bar and more alfresco dining.
Owner George Bartell said the expansion meant the business could grow while making the most of its location at Waterfront Park.
“Our ability to host functions will be bigger than ever and we’re expecting our new ‘beer garden’ area on the lawn to be a hit with the locals, especially for our Sunday sessions,” he said.
The opening hours will be extended to seven days a week for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
The menu is also set to expand and Mr Bartell is looking at the potential for more outdoor cooking opportunities, such as paella sessions, and featuring freshly cooked crayfish as an occasional special.
“A brewery has come on board, which means we’ll have a dozen or so beers on tap as well as our planned wine tastings and cocktail nights,” he said.
“We’ll continue to have live music and DJs.
“There will be various themed nights throughout the week, including pasta and jazz nights.”
Construction is expected to finish in late 2018, with no disruptions to current cafe services anticipated.
