Motocross for youngsters

North Coast Times - - SPORT -

KIDS and teens can have a go on two or four wheels at the Wanneroo Junior Motocross Club this month.

Motorcycling WA is supplying free one-day licences for youngsters aged four to 19 who have not received one before for the club’s come-and-try day on February 18.

If riders have received a licence before, they can buy a $30 one-event rec licence.

The event aims to allow juniors to try motocross in a safe environment, with kids placed into age and bike size groups.

“They usually get four races, which go for about 10 minutes each and the other time they watch the other riders and get their bikes ready for the next race,” secretary Kelly Squires said.

The club will then host a Go Moto day on February 25 where club members can also take part.

Both events are open to riders who turned four before January 1 or were 18 or under on January 1 and cost $20 each.

Non-competitive riders for the Go Moto must hold a mini or rec licence or can again buy a one-event licence.

All riders must wear correct motocross boots and approved helmet, chest guard, gloves and goggles and have a parent or guardian present at all times.
