Beach job to go ahead

North Coast Times - - NEWS -

A BID for a $300,000 grant to extend a Quinns Beach groyne has failed but the City of Wanneroo will do the work.

Mayor Tracey Roberts said the City applied for two grants in 2018-19 through the Department of Transport’s coastal adaptation and protection grant scheme.

The State Government announced successful applications, including the City’s $125,000 request to replenish sand at Quinns Beach.

Mrs Roberts said the second request was for $300,000 to extend one of the groynes.

“These works have been planned based on sound technical investigations and have strong community support,” she said.

“Whilst it is disappointing that the City was not successful in this second request, the groyne 2 construction works at Quinns Beach will be unaffected as the works were budgeted for as part of the City’s 201819 capital works program.”
