THE City of Wanneroo has agreed to widen a section of Marmion Avenue ahead of schedule.

The council unanimously agreed to advance a 1.2km portion of the dual carriageway project during a confidential session at its July 24 meeting.

Mayor Tracey Roberts said two intersections were included in that section, beside Alkimos Vista estate a roundabout and a left-in, left-out T-junction.

“The 1.2km section of road in Alkimos is being built in advance to limit the need for rework as part of the overarching project,” she said.

“Work on the Alkimos section is expected to start in September 2018 and finish in February 2019.

“The City will manage these works.”

Mrs Roberts said the City would negotiate with developers and landowners about developer contributions for intersection upgrades.

The design work for the overall project had already started and construction was due to start in January and finish in December next year, she said.
