HAVING lunch with an astronaut will be one of many highlights for Prendiville Catholic College students on the school’s inaugural science tour of the US.

Leaving tomorrow, 25 students from years 10 and 11 and four staff members will embark on a 13-day study tour that will include NASA’s Kennedy Space Centre in Florida and an airboat ride of the Everglades, where students will complete a study of wetland ecology in the area.

They will also visit Disney’s Epcot Theme Park, Disneyworld and Universal Studios before heading to Washington to see the Smithsonian Institution, including the Air and Space Museum and the Natural History Museum. They will also visit the International Spy Museum to complete forensic activities and have a moonlight tour of the famous monuments in Washington.

Head of science Gerard Giannasi said the motto for the tour was ‘like never before’.

“We hope to instil in our students a sense of discovery, igniting a passion for life-long learning in a career or interest related to science,” he said.
