Diamond for Dempseys

North Coast Weekender - - Opinion -

ALMA (79) and Mal (82) Dempsey celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary recently.

To mark their special day, the Marmion pair went for their usual early morning swim at Watermans Bay, despite the unseasonable cold weather, followed by champagne with other swimmers.

Daughter Glenda Cooper said her parents were “always out and about and travelling”.

“We love that they are still so involved and have so many friends and lunches and trips that they enjoy,” she said.

Mrs Cooper said Mr Dempsey had suffered a heart attack two years ago, so the couple had been making sure to “fit more in to life”.

They have been long-time participants in the North Beach Bowling Club, with Mr Dempsey president for 13 years until he retired from the position last year.

Mrs Dempsey was an inaugural member of Zonta and is still involved.

The couple has four children, eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Happy anniversary: Mal and Alma Dempsey celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary recently. Below: The couple on their wedding day.
