MORE than 750 trees are being planted on verges in Landsdale, Hocking and Merriwa as part of a pilot program.

The City of Wanneroo is launching the street-tree program to help create cooler and more attractive streetscapes.

The trees will be added to the City’s maintenance program, which includes establishment watering for two years and pruning for the life of the tree.

Wanneroo Mayor Tracey Roberts said there were many advantages to the environmentally friendly pilot program.

“Not only do they look wonderful, but also street trees benefit the whole community by reducing temperatures, absorbing and reducing noise levels, creating a bird habitat and providing shaded pathways,” she said.

“This is a fantastic initiative that will beautify our suburbs and show how we can work together to create liveable, healthy and sustainable communities.”

Residents can help plant the trees on July 1 at Landsdale Road, July 15 at Chesterfield Park in Hocking and July 29 at Coldstream Circuit in Merriwa.
