Huge choir finds harmony
FOUR thousand children singing their hearts out and watched by 8000 proud parents, grandparents and supporters, was the big act in town last week at Perth Arena.
The One Big Voice Choir is made up of 80 WA metropolitan and country primary school choirs, who come together once a year for a spectacular performance in Perth.
Originally known as the Westcoast Songfest, the choir’s first performance in 2000, involved just six local schools and 450 students.
Musical director Donna Marwick O’Brien said the choir continued to expand each year and was dedicated to its mission to have as many children as possible singing positive and life-affirming songs. “We also encourage young people who are no longer in primary school to continue to enjoy music and song and showcase their skills by performing in our pre-concert Young Talent section,” she said.
