IDEAL sailing conditions prevailed for the penultimate winter race held off Hillarys on Sunday.

With a handicap start the shortened course didn’t suit the backmarkers and most unusual for them, they finished last in all three divisions.

In division one, Hard Evidence (Des Riley and Marshall Fox) continued on her winning way, leading from the front and was never headed, finishing ahead of Mulberry (Mark Pitt) and fastest on the day, Surfer Rosa (Roric Smith).

Eight yachts contested division two in a very close race with Blue Chip (Keith and Deborah Fisk) first, followed by Greg Hill sailing Not Negotiable and Tony Brooke on Tropical Itch, third.

In their continuing tussle for fastest, Xtreme (HYC Youth Squad) held sway over Covert Operation (Bart Brouwer and Graham Atkinson). Covert Operation, Surfer Rosa

In division three Pandora (Chris Kelly) led all the way to comfortably record her third win of the series from Brett and Lynda Bailey on Sensei and the fastest yacht, Catabatic (Rob Bills).

While the winter series winner is pretty clear for divisions Catabatic.

one and three, four yachts tied on 16 points in division two, Show Me, Xtreme, Not Negotiable and Helga, will fight it out in the last race next weekend to see who will have bragging rights until the summer season starts October 8.
