* LAM­BEX is launch­ing a na­tional search for the most ten­der, fla­vor some and juici­est lamb in Aus­tralia as part of its na­tional con­fer­ence to be held in Ade­laide in July.

Aus­tralia’s best lamb com­pe­ti­tion is open to lamb pro­duc­ers, pro­ces­sors, whole­salers and re­tail­ers, with en­tries open in six cat­e­gories.

En­tries close on Sun­day, June 1 with judg­ing con­ducted on Wed­nes­day, July 9 at Re­gency TAFE in Ade­laide.

Win­ners will be an­nounced at the Aus­tralian Wool In­dus­try Grand­sLamb din­ner at Lam­bEx on Thurs­day, July 10.

The com­pe­ti­tion is sup­ported by Elders, Aus­tralian Meat In­dus­try Coun­cil and tafeSA.

* MUR­RAY Dairy is con­tin­u­ing its se­ries of bi-monthly lunchtime re­search ses­sions on al­ter­nate pas­tures on Tues­day, July 8 at the Depart­ment of En­vi­ron­ment and Pri­mary In­dus­tries (DEPI) in Tatura.

Be­gin­ning at 12 noon, the ses­sion fea­tures DEPI se­nior re­search sci­en­tist – dairy, Bill Wales, dis­cussing re­search into feed con­ver­sion ef­fi­ciency.

*GOTAFE is hold­ing a one day work­shop on Ad­vanced Spray Ap­pli­ca­tion on Mon­day, Au­gust 4 at 9am to 4pm at Dookie Col­lege.

The course is de­signed for ex­pe­ri­enced agri­cul­tur­ists in­volved in chemical ap­pli­ca­tion and is par­tic­u­larly rel­e­vant for those man­ag­ing em­ploy­ees us­ing chem­i­cals on farm.

The one day work­shop plus work­site visit will cover mon­i­tor­ing and record­ing of weather, drift re­duc­tion strate­gies and tech­nolo­gies, how to recog­nise and avoid in­ver­sions, chemical la­bel re­quire­ments, record keep­ing, PPE, OH&S, prac­ti­cal strate­gies for mix­ing and ap­ply­ing chem­i­cals dye demon­stra­tion us­ing a va­ri­ety of noz­zles and wa­ter rates.

The cost is $270 for el­i­gi­ble par­tic­i­pants (do not hold a qual­i­fi­ca­tion at Cert IV or above) or $337.50 for in-el­i­gi­ble par­tic­i­pants.

*THE Vic­to­rian Farm­ers Fed­er­a­tion is call­ing on people to par­tic­i­pate in this year’s Run 4 Farmer Health dur­ing the Mel­bourne Marathon on Sun­day, Oc­to­ber 12.

The Run 4 Farmer Health cam­paign is to raise aware­ness for the cru­cial role and im­por­tance the Na­tional Cen­tre for Farmer Health has played in de­liv­er­ing phys­i­cal, prac­ti­cal and men­tal health well­be­ing for re­gional people.
