Ag opportunies for recycling explored

North East & Goulburn Murray Farmer - - NEWS -

GOULBURN Valley farmers have an opportunity to get involved in a waste and recycling infrastructure planning process now underway.

The draft Goulburn Valley Waste and Resource Recovery Implementation Plan has identified the region as having the largest number of organics reprocessors in the state, with the opportunity to also recycle farm wastes such as film plastics.

The draft plan will guide waste and resource recovery infrastructure planning over the next 10 years. Goulburn Valley Waste and Resource Recovery Group executive officer Nick Nagle said the region produces about 25 per cent of the value of Victoria’s agricultural production from large areas of irrigated dairy farming, vegetable production and broadacre cropping.

“These levels of food production obviously produce organics which present opportunities for innovative technologies such as energy from waste.

“We’d really like to hear from farmers on these topics,” he said.
