THIS year, Strathview Maternal Genetics is celebrating 30 years of performance recording in Southern NSW.
It is no surprise then that after three decades in the industry, their upcoming sale will offer 90 of the best rams available.
Held on site on October 10, inspections will start at 10am with the Helmsman auction to begin at noon.
It has a been a long journey for Tim Lubke, and his wife Bek, since they purchased the registered maternal ewe flock 28 from Narrambla – and since that time, the pair have experienced ongoing success.
As proof of their success, Strathview sells over 100 rams each year.
Over the last four years, the Strathview commercial flock of 2500 ewes has averaged 189 per cent scanned in lamb.
New Zealand Coopworth genetics, with a performance recording history of more than 55 years, have been introduced into the stud almost every year since inception.
Strathview composite maternals have also been developed as an easy care, tighter skin line.
The stud has continued to use ASBVs (Australian sheep breeding values) to monitor the progress and make a direct comparison to other maternal stud flocks.
The stud has a strong focus on lamb survival - the breeding program has long selected ewes that stay close to their lambs and take them to sizeable weights at weaning.
Birth weights are recorded to ensure ease of lambing, and strength is maintained to handle adverse weather events.
The ewe lambs are early maturing – a client from the Young district in New South Wales recorded a 94 per cent conception rate in his Strathview second-cross ewes, joined at 8 months of age.
Strathview lambs also have exceptional growth rates – another client, a local Henty farmer, recorded an average of 330 grams per head per day live weight gain over six weeks on his grazing canola.
Strathview rams are used in many first-cross and self replacing ewe flocks.
