Aussie’s free fire smart plan
A FREE plan on how to best prepare for this year’s bushfire season has been released by Aussie Pumps.
The new booklet takes farmers and home owners logically through the prep needed to defend properties – from cleaning gutters to how to prepare your property boundaries.
“Anyone who lives near bushland, coastal scrub, on grasslands or between paddocks is potentially at risk,” Australian Pump Industries (Aussie Pumps) spokesman, Brad Farrugia, said.
“The Aussie Fire Smart Survival Guide is our way of giving support to everyone who is potentially at risk.
The guide deals with the options of stay or go during a fire situation – based on assessing the risks for each situation and putting in the preparation work in advance.
“Without wishing to sound dramatic, it can save lives,” Mr Farrugia said.
The guide covers how to set up sprinkler systems to provide household protection, and details all of the basics of family fire drills, pump maintenance and selection.
The guide also highlights the key questions to ask when selecting a fire pump.
“Homeowners should take the trouble to check out the pump specifications, looking in particular at the amount of water delivered at the required pressure,” Mr Farrugia said.
“You may need one outlet on the pump for a sprinkler system and another for a hose to douse spot fires - will there be enough water to supply both?
“Reading our guide will arm customers with a realistic expectation of what can be achieved, what equipment will be needed, and how to avoid some of the pitfalls.”
Aussie Pumps’ Fire Smart Guide is available free from Aussie Pump distributors throughout Australia or by downloading from the website, www.aussiepumps.com.au.
