Rodeo coming to Beechworth

North East Tourist News - - Beechworth -

BEECHWORTH will saddle up for a rodeo – a new sporting and entertainment event for the town – on January 4 next year.

The Indigo Fuels’ Beechworth Rodeo is to be staged for the first time on farmland at the back of Mayday Hills.

It will include the full gamut of rodeo events and culminate in an open bull ride.

The rodeo is a joint fundraiser for the Beechworth Football Netball Club (BFNC) and the Beechworth Wanderers’ Cricket Club (BWCC).

Naming rights sponsorship has been secured from Indigo Fuels’ owner-operator Frank Wadi .

BFNC president Bret Lacey said Indigo Fuels was new to the community – having recently bought the former Ampol service station in High Street.

“It’s fantastic for Frank to take such a leading role with this event as a real show of goodwill towards the community,” Lacey said.

Other major sponsors include the Commercial Club Albury, Indigo Stampede, Georges Bar & Restaurant, Beechworth Real Estate, The Hibernian Hotel, Dick Carey, LDJ photos and WAW Credit Union.

The organising clubs have also received funding from Indigo Shire Council economic development and tourism advisory committee.

They hope that the committee will also help to promote and stage the event.

Both clubs are excited about hosting a different sporting spectacle for Beechworth.

They believe it will be a family-friendly event and will attract interest from local people and many holiday makers in the area in the early new year.

“We hope this will be the first year of an annual event that will run for many years to come,“said Wanderers’ club president Rodger Biddolf.

“We think it’s great that the clubs can work together to put on a new, exciting event for the town.”
