North East Tourist News - - Wangaratta -

WANGARATTA is delighted to once again host the bi-annual Wangaratta Contemporary Textile Awards at the heritage listed Wangaratta Art Gallery.

This exhibition and award - now in its fourth year - has become a significant part of the textile industry across Australia and internationally and attracts many well known and high calibre artists.

Wangaratta has a long and prominent history of textiles, both in manufacturing and as a craft form.

Building on this tradition, Wangaratta Art Gallery is proud to continue that age old tradition of working with textiles but presenting the art form in a contemporary style that will resonate with all visitors.

The award announcement and exhibition opening will be on Saturday June 13 at 11am and will be open to the public from June 13 to July 26. Entry to the exhibition is free. Previous winners of the award include Mandy Gunn, 2009, Patrick Snelling, 2011 and Paul Yore, 2013.

The Wangaratta Contemporary Textile Award continues to recognise the high calibre practice that Australian artists provide to the national and international textile tableau.

The team welcome you to the gallery and to this fascinating look into the world of textiles.
