Milawa Cheese company offers something for all
THE historic red brick old butter factory home to Milawa Cheese Company turned 100 this year and welcomes you to an air conditioned foodie haven this summer.
Whether you are a true cheese fanatic or just like a nibble with a biccy there is something for everyone, with close to 20 different cheeses made by hand on site and available for you to taste.
Ranging from bries and camemberts through to creamy blues and bitey cheddars, made from both cow and goat milk, the range is made with nonanimal rennet so is vegetarian friendly.
The tasting room also sells a range of locally produced preserves and cheese accompaniments, which can help to build a terrific hamper for that person that has everything this Christmas, or just to take for a picnic by the river.
There is also a great restaurant on site, so you can enjoy the cheese on a pizza, or a platter, or something else entirely.
The menu changes regularly with a focus on great regional produce and perennial favourites, indulge with a glass of wine on the vine bedecked terrace, or in the air conditioned restaurant. Don’t forget the amazing breads. The home of Milawa Bread, traditional artisanal European style breads famed the region over, the corn bread has a cult following, so maybe call ahead to order.
With so much on offer the cheese factory is a great spot to indulge the senses, and if the above isn’t already enough there are other attractions onsite: Woodpark Wine’s Cellar Door, The Muse Gallery of Milawa and the Walnut Tree Collection giftwares.
Milawa Cheese Company, Bakery and Restaurant is open seven days a week from 9am-5pm, and tastings finish at 4.30.
Breakfast is from 9-11.30am, and lunch is served from 12 noon.
During the festive season, the business is closed on Christmas Day, and open from 10am-4pm on Boxing Day, and 9am-4pm on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day.
FOODIE HAVEN: Milawa Cheese Company has a proud tradition of creating tempting cheese and other gourmet treats.
