Mi­lawa Cheese com­pany of­fers some­thing for all

THE his­toric red brick old but­ter fac­tory home to Mi­lawa Cheese Com­pany turned 100 this year and wel­comes you to an air con­di­tioned foodie haven this sum­mer.

Whether you are a true cheese fa­natic or just like a nib­ble with a biccy there is some­thing for ev­ery­one, with close to 20 dif­fer­ent cheeses made by hand on site and avail­able for you to taste.

Rang­ing from bries and camem­berts through to creamy blues and bitey ched­dars, made from both cow and goat milk, the range is made with nonan­i­mal ren­net so is veg­e­tar­ian friendly.

The tast­ing room also sells a range of lo­cally pro­duced pre­serves and cheese ac­com­pa­ni­ments, which can help to build a ter­rific ham­per for that per­son that has ev­ery­thing this Christ­mas, or just to take for a pic­nic by the river.

There is also a great restau­rant on site, so you can en­joy the cheese on a pizza, or a plat­ter, or some­thing else en­tirely.

The menu changes reg­u­larly with a fo­cus on great re­gional pro­duce and peren­nial favourites, in­dulge with a glass of wine on the vine be­decked ter­race, or in the air con­di­tioned restau­rant. Don’t for­get the amaz­ing breads. The home of Mi­lawa Bread, tra­di­tional ar­ti­sanal Euro­pean style breads famed the re­gion over, the corn bread has a cult fol­low­ing, so maybe call ahead to or­der.

With so much on of­fer the cheese fac­tory is a great spot to in­dulge the senses, and if the above isn’t al­ready enough there are other at­trac­tions on­site: Wood­park Wine’s Cel­lar Door, The Muse Gallery of Mi­lawa and the Wal­nut Tree Col­lec­tion gift­wares.

Mi­lawa Cheese Com­pany, Bak­ery and Restau­rant is open seven days a week from 9am-5pm, and tast­ings fin­ish at 4.30.

Break­fast is from 9-11.30am, and lunch is served from 12 noon.

Dur­ing the fes­tive sea­son, the busi­ness is closed on Christ­mas Day, and open from 10am-4pm on Box­ing Day, and 9am-4pm on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day.
