Cofield Wines celebrate their 25th vintage in 2015, they have had plenty of special releases and treats for visitors to their cellar door.

As a boutique family winemaking business, owner and head winemaker Damien Cofield is very proud to be offering their hand crafted sparkling wines, in particular their 2006 Reserve Release Pinot Noir Chardonnay.

“This wine spent nearly nine years on lees, which gives it a unique character,” he said.

Recently released red wines mainly showcase the exceptional 2013 vintage, Damien is particularly proud of his 2013 Minimal Footprint Quartz Vein Shiraz.

Made from fruit sourced from the Quartz Vein vineyard which runs alongside Cellar Door, the quartz characters of the soil are showcased in this wine.

“This might be our best red yet,” Damien said.

“We like to think all our reds are true to the Rutherglen style every vintage, but this wine is one out of the box.”

In 2014, winemaker Brendan Heath joined the Cofield team.

With a history of production of some of Rutherglen’s most famous fortifieds, an exciting future seems in store for the cellar door releases at Cofield Wines.

First of the fortifieds to be released is the Topaque.

Made from the muscadelle grape and showing malt and butterscotch flavours, it will be sure to be included with this year’s Christmas dinner, according to the Cofield team.

For a real treat you can purchase a wine flight tasting, which sees three wines matched to local produce, included is the Topaque matched to a Renaissance Chocolate Topaque truffle, a true delight.

This summer head out to Cofields, where you can either dine with the Pickled Sisters Cafe, recently awarded Australia’s best cafe restuarant by Savour Australia, or bring your own picnic, taking advantage of the free barbecue facilities.

Wines are available by the glass or bottle and can be enjoyed on the lawns, where visitors can relax in a bean bag, and grab a game of chess or connect four.
