Fun in High Coun­try

SUM­MER in the High Coun­try has some­thing for ev­ery­one.

Pop­u­lar with many hol­i­day mak­ers are the lakes – Eil­don and Nil­lah­cootie - for wa­ter sports and fish­ing.

On New Year’s Day the Mer­ton Race Club will hold its an­nual race meet­ing where an es­ti­mated 2000 peo­ple en­joy a ‘re­cov­ery day’ af­ter wel­com­ing in the New Year.

To­wards the end of Jan­uary there are the usual Aus­tralia Day cel­e­bra­tions in­clud­ing both the bush and farm­ers mar­kets and kids ac­tiv­i­ties – with an open day at the lo­cal swim­ming pool.

And of course grow­ing in pop­u­lar­ity is the Great Vic­to­rian Rail Trail which can be rid­den in part or full.

When the weather turns ex­tremely hot there are al­ways the hills to head for.

Mt Buller of­fers the cool­ness of the High Coun­try along with cy­cling ac­tiv­i­ties and a Pic­nic in the Park in March.
