Tourism promotion through your photos
A picture is worth a thousand words, as the saying generally goes.
Indigo Shire Council’s tourism department is now applying this saying to its promotional work with the introduction of social media application Instagram.
Instagram allows people to post their own photos for people to see and share.
Tourism manager Clayton Neil said the department had established #beechworth which would collect photos and images relevant to Indigo Shire.
“Sometimes a great photo can have a much stronger impact on someone when they are looking for somewhere to visit for a weekend away and longer holiday,” Mr Neil said.
“We recently met with a group of local prolific ‘Instagrammers’ to discuss their inspirations and how they use their images.
“From this has grown a community that we hope will continue to grow to showcase all that is unique and engaging in Indigo Shire.
“Photos of food and wine, quirky retail outlets, history, cycling, natural landscapes, trails and community events - all very welcome additions to #beechworth.
“So if you are out and about with your camera and capture a special photo of Indigo Shire, please use #beechworth so we can share it with the world.”
People can add #beechworth or #exploreindigo to their Instagram posts or post directly to Explore Indigo on facebook.
“As we launch the new town-based tourism websites we will also be launching new hashtags for each town, such as #rutherglen, which is now providing us with great local content,” Mr Neil said.
