Lifeworld (nationwide, October 19-November 4) refe refers to the world as experienced in the subjectivity of everyday life, as opposed to the objective “world” of the sciences. It’s also the name of a new work by Footnote Dance, commissioned from one of the country’s most dynamic choreographers, Claire O’neil. The work riffs on the philosophical concept, contrasting humour and frivolity with the depths of the human condition and exploring the space between relationships and perception.

Other notable November dance performances in Auckland: Black Grace: As Night Falls (Herald Theatre, November 1-5), a poetic ode to our troubled world, choreographed by artistic director Neil Ieremia; and White Light Falls (Basement Theatre, November 8-12), created by Unitec contemporary dance graduates to contemplate the strength and vulnerabilities of women and the importance of support networks.
