POWERP TO THE PEOPLE

North & South - - Choice -

The votes are in – so which classical works made the top 10 for this year’s Settling the Score? Perennial favourites, such as Beethoven’s Fifth and Ninth symphonies, Holst’s The Planets suite or Elgar’s Cello Concerto? Will Vaughan Williams’ The Lark Ascending stay in the Top 50, as it has every year (mostly appearing in the Top 10) since Settling the Score began in 2000? On November 10, tune in to RNZ Concert or head to the Auckland Town Hall for the live concert performed by the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra. This year, the audience also gets to determine the ticket price: pay whatever you think the show was worth.

Meanwhile, acclaimed tenor Simon O’neill teams up with NZ Trio for Flare, the final in their Loft Series, which includes a new commission from Kiwi composer Stephen Matthews (The Turner Centre, Kerikeri, November 10; Q Theatre Loft, Auckland, November 13 and 15; The Great Hall, Christchurch, November 17).
