NEW ZEALAND SCHOOL OF DANCE: 50 YEARS 1967-2017 TURID REVFEIM (NEW ZEALAND SCHOOL OF DANCE, $39)

North & South - - Review -

The New Zealand School of Dance, formerly the National School of Ballet, celebrates its first half-century with the publication of this most elegantly designed – by Neil Pardington – and produced volume. Former pupil and now teacher Turid Revfeim supplies the words with images by Stephen A’court, whose photographs accompany many valuable historic pictures that are also included. Writing about ballet is a challenging feat, but Revfeim manages to cover the school’s history in an accessible manner. However, it’s the photos by A’court, who has been shooting the school’s dancers since 1994, that will garner most attention.
