Luke Jackson discovered a love of writing in English classes at Auckland Grammar. That led him to the journalism course at Auckland University of Technology, where he’s halfway through a three-year degree. Between studies, he’s taken up a part-time internship at North & South. “I started with filing, phone answering and making coffees, but my coffees were pretty awful, so they let me loose on some writing and proof-reading.” Since then, Jackson has been writing Four Corners stories and film reviews for the magazine (see his piece on the International Youth Silent Film Festival on page 28). After talking to the Us-based festival founder, he was inspired to enter a three-minute silent film of his own. “I’ve always liked filmmaking, so I decided to get my camera and some mates together to make a movie myself… I think it’s a masterpiece, of course.”
