On show for the first time outside of Italy, The Corsini Collection: A Window on Renaissance Florence (Auckland Art Gallery, until January 21, 2018) features masterpieces by artists such as Botticelli, del Sarto, Caravaggio and Pontormo, all from the private collection of the eminent Corsini family. The story of Florence – considered the cradle of the Renaissance – is explored through this exhibition, as well as personal histories, such as that of the precious collection saved from the German army during World War II and of the Corsini family’s determination to overcome natural adversity when Florence was inundated by the flood of 1966.

Below: Sandro Botticelli and workshop’s “Madonna and Child with Six Angels”, circa 1500.
