Tauranga- based Dave Roy ( pictured above) worked on The Lord
of the Rings as a set finisher and sculptor in 1999, and has been a full-time artist ever since. He’s one of 50 artists featured in the Bay of Plenty Garden & Art Festival, where a trail weaves past some 70 gardens and 50 galleries throughout the Western Bay of Plenty ( 15-18 November).
There’ll be rambling rural gardens, small plots and plenty inbetween, plus a line- up of artists/sculptors to bring a flush of spring fever to the Bay. Spend some time off your feet at the familyfriendly festival hub at Tauranga’s Historic Village, where the programme includes keynote speakers, entertainment, tasty food and drink, exhibitions, workshops, displays and concept gardens.
Further south, the Wairarapa Garden Tour sends nature lovers on a self- drive tour of beautiful private gardens ( 10-11 November) – and doubles as an annual fundraiser for conservation and restoration work at Pukaha Mount Bruce National Wildlife Centre.
