Helpers sought for clean-up

Lo­cals are be­ing called to pitch in and help Keep Aus­tralia Beau­ti­ful through Care For Hed­land.

The en­vi­ron­men­tal as­so­ci­a­tion is en­cour­ag­ing Hed­land to join in the Adopt-A-Spot clean up cam­paign on Au­gust 26 as part of KAB’s WA ac­tiv­i­ties.

Each year Keep Aus­tralia Beau­ti­ful Week, which runs from Au­gust 20- 27, has a dif­fer­ent theme, and this year there will be a fo­cus on take­away lit­ter and waste, tar­get­ing pack­ag­ing and con­tain­ers from take­away out­lets in­clud­ing plas­tic cups and straws, take­away con­tain­ers and plas­tic bags.

Care for Hed­land co-or­di­na­tor Jo Smith said the event would be on the Port-South Road near the over­pass and the turn-off for Wedge­field and the air­port.

“All are wel­come to at­tend,” she said. “Vol­un­teers are en­cour­aged to wear ap­pro­pri­ate shoes, hat and sun­screen.

“High-vis safety vests, gloves and wa­ter will be sup­plied.”

Care For Hed­land’s Adopt-A-Spot pro­gram hap­pens on the third and fourth Satur­day of ev­ery month from 7am-8.30am.

Clean-ups on the third Satur­day of the month are along Hamil­ton Road, whereas on the fourth Satur­day of each month, vol­un­teers will be on the Port-South road.
