The WA Nationals have criticised a 700-bed Woodside workers' camp planned for Karratha, saying it would undermine community confidence and local investment.

Bad idea for Karratha to have more FIFO. More local residence is what is needed. FIFO does nothing for the town. Clinton Kimpton

FIFO is here to stay, get used to it. Miners have always moved to where their work takes them, way before FIFO started. Marina Hayward

Bloody good job, use the accommodation already there. We are meant to be building up these towns, not creating more workers to fly in and then F off, without having any consideration for the towns and communities to continue to exist and grow. Noeleen Bode

Families in need of work would relocate. That is the entire point. People aren't living in the town. Many more would if that was how employment was offered. Sonya Matheson

An upcoming inquiry by the Economics and Industry Standing Committee will look into the cost of regional airfares and examine the impact on communities, businesses and tourism within WA regions.

Imagine how many tourists will not come to see the Kimberley region with the high fees scheduled for access. Don't disagree with a fee but it's a fine balancing act between positive and negative growth figures. Time will tell all. Pop Davey

Imagine how many more tourists would check out places like Karijini if the airfare to Newman wasn't more than what they paid to come to Australia from the other side of the world in the first place. Daniel Romero

There will be no change. The airlines been over charging for 50 years that I know of. Shaen Johnston
