Families gain FMG insights

North West Telegraph - - Telegraph News - Sophia Constantine

Families of Port Hedland’s Fortescue Metals Group employees recently had the opportunity to gain insight into Hedland’s unique port and rail industry.

The family and community tour is one several regular tours conducted by FMG throughout the year at all of its sites.

The attendees, some of whom had travelled from as far as Perth, were taken through Fortescue’s Port and Rail operations and enjoyed lunch at Hamilton village.

FMG general manager of port and rail Fernando Pereira said the tour was a highlight of the year for some of those involved, and a chance for young ones to develop an understanding of what their parents do.

He said it was an opportunity for the community and the families to gain valuable insights into day-to-day operations. “We are proud of the relationship that we have with the community in Port Hedland, where the majority of our Pilbara residential workforce is based,” he said.

He said the visits were essential to support the health and wellbeing of the workforce, by ensuring families were able to feel connected through gaining a better understanding of the operations.
