Fired up af­ter footy win

Pem­ber­ton busi­ness owner and fire­fighter Greg Ham­lyn has won the ul­ti­mate foot­ball trip — at­tend­ing the AFL grand fi­nal at the Mel­bourne Cricket Ground.

Mr Ham­lyn en­tered the Statewide com­pe­ti­tion, run by West Australian Re­gional News­pa­pers, af­ter mak­ing a purchase at the Pem­ber­ton Gen­eral Store.

Mr Ham­lyn said he was “ec­static” to win the prize, worth more than $5000, which in­cludes game tick­ets, flights and ac­com­mo­da­tion.

“I want to thank West Australian News­pa­pers for hold­ing the com­pe­ti­tion — it’s a fan­tas­tic prize and you never think you’re go­ing to win some­thing like that,” he said.

The West Coast Ea­gles sup­porter said al­though his team did not make it to the grand fi­nal, he was still ex­cited to at­tend and en­joy the at­mos­phere. Pem­ber­ton Gen­eral Store own­ers Lionel Lee and Sheree Star­ling-Lee said they were happy some­one from Pem­ber­ton had won the prize.

The com­pe­ti­tion ran in news­pa­pers across the State, in­clud­ing the Pil­bara News and North West Tele­graph, and at­tracted more than 5000 en­tries.
