Brewers continue winning streak
Round two of the Port Hedland Baseball competition continued with Brewers maintaining their winning streak, demolishing Swans 28-9, while Pirates put their first points on the ladder, claiming the win over Sharks 12-2.
Brewers showed no mercy with the bat as Dylan Brown topped the chart going four from four with a single, double, triple and an overthe-fence home run, bringing in a total of three runs batted in.
Following a close second was Jesse Barron, who also hit a home run and three singles, bringing five team members across the plate.
Mitch Bycroft and Luke Bush brought in four runners each, both from two single and two doubles.
Kane Edwards was the top batter for Swans for the second consecutive week as he batted three from four with a single and two doubles, bringing in two RBIs.
A close second was Nathan Bann, also with two RBIs from a single. Jeff Edwards and Ash Christensen both had a single RBI each, Edwards from a single and Christensen from two singles.
Pitching the distance for Brewers was Mitch Bycroft, earning four strikeouts. Swans’ pitching was shared throughout the match, beginning with Ash Christensen who struck out two Brewers batters. Closing the game was Nathan Bann, who sent three batters back to the bench.
The later game saw similar results as Pirates overpowered the Sharks.
Kevin Charles topped the Pirates’ batting list, batting in two runs from two singles. Tom Spoljaric also added two RBIs to his team’s run tally from a single and two doubles.
Blade Hayter had two hits for the match, batting a single and a triple.
Sharks top batter was Matthew Templeman, who had one single from two times at the plate. Brothers Damien and Lax Hindmarsh were put two runs through.
Pitching the five innings for Pirates was Hayter, sending an impressive 12 Sharks back to the dugout. Sharks’ Zac Mokta was the sole pitcher for his team, managing two strikeouts from four innings.
This weekend will see Pirates look to put a stop to the undefeated Brewers, the game starting at 4.30pm. Later, under lights, Swans and Sharks will clash at 7.30pm, with both sides looking for redemption after the previous week’s efforts.
