Brew­ers con­tinue win­ning streak

Round two of the Port Hed­land Base­ball com­pe­ti­tion con­tin­ued with Brew­ers main­tain­ing their win­ning streak, de­mol­ish­ing Swans 28-9, while Pi­rates put their first points on the lad­der, claim­ing the win over Sharks 12-2.

Brew­ers showed no mercy with the bat as Dy­lan Brown topped the chart go­ing four from four with a sin­gle, dou­ble, triple and an over­the-fence home run, bring­ing in a to­tal of three runs bat­ted in.

Fol­low­ing a close sec­ond was Jesse Bar­ron, who also hit a home run and three sin­gles, bring­ing five team mem­bers across the plate.

Mitch By­croft and Luke Bush brought in four run­ners each, both from two sin­gle and two dou­bles.

Kane Ed­wards was the top bat­ter for Swans for the sec­ond con­sec­u­tive week as he bat­ted three from four with a sin­gle and two dou­bles, bring­ing in two RBIs.

A close sec­ond was Nathan Bann, also with two RBIs from a sin­gle. Jeff Ed­wards and Ash Chris­tensen both had a sin­gle RBI each, Ed­wards from a sin­gle and Chris­tensen from two sin­gles.

Pitch­ing the dis­tance for Brew­ers was Mitch By­croft, earn­ing four strike­outs. Swans’ pitch­ing was shared through­out the match, be­gin­ning with Ash Chris­tensen who struck out two Brew­ers bat­ters. Clos­ing the game was Nathan Bann, who sent three bat­ters back to the bench.

The later game saw sim­i­lar re­sults as Pi­rates over­pow­ered the Sharks.

Kevin Charles topped the Pi­rates’ bat­ting list, bat­ting in two runs from two sin­gles. Tom Spol­jaric also added two RBIs to his team’s run tally from a sin­gle and two dou­bles.

Blade Hayter had two hits for the match, bat­ting a sin­gle and a triple.

Sharks top bat­ter was Matthew Templeman, who had one sin­gle from two times at the plate. Brothers Damien and Lax Hind­marsh were put two runs through.

Pitch­ing the five in­nings for Pi­rates was Hayter, send­ing an im­pres­sive 12 Sharks back to the dugout. Sharks’ Zac Mokta was the sole pitcher for his team, man­ag­ing two strike­outs from four in­nings.

This week­end will see Pi­rates look to put a stop to the un­de­feated Brew­ers, the game start­ing at 4.30pm. Later, un­der lights, Swans and Sharks will clash at 7.30pm, with both sides look­ing for redemp­tion af­ter the pre­vi­ous week’s ef­forts.
