North West Telegraph - - Telegraph News - Taylar Amonini

The streets of Port and South Hedland are set to light up as the Town’s annual Christmas lights competition begins.

Nominations opened last week for the four-category competition, which will see houses decorated in Christmas lights of all colours and patterns.

Categories include best house/unit in South Hedland, best house/unit in Port Hedland, best energy-efficient display and best recycled decoration for entrants under 21.

This year will also see Christmas trees pop up at the South Hedland Shopping Centre and Port Hedland Boulevard Shopping Centre decorated by local primary schools.

A Town of Port Hedland spokeswoman said the Town encouraged residents to nominate their own displays as well as others they saw around town.

“Schools are encouraged to create recycled decorations and this will hopefully provide inspiration for the best recycled decoration category,” she said.

“While we have a specific category to recognise energy-efficient displays, we do encourage all entrants to consider energy-saving options.”

A map of nominated houses will be available to the public after nominations close on December 5.

Prizes for category winners will include local business vouchers and Christmas vouchers.
