Australia’s live export industry has come under fire after shocking footage showed Australian sheep crammed together and dying aboard a live export ship on its way to the Middle East.

Following the footage, the Federal Government commissioned an urgent investigation into live sheep exports. However, WA Minister for Agriculture and Food Alannah MacTiernan said the Federal Government had been “putting their head in the sand” in the lead-up to the footage.

“Less than two weeks ago, the Federal Government produced a report that basically whitewashed what happened,” she said.

Ms MacTiernan said the State Government had already started an investigation into the shipment under the State’s animal welfare laws.
