TOWN GEARS UP FOR WEEK OF FUN
Children and teenagers across the Town of Port Hedland are being invited to immerse themselves in an action-packed program to celebrate National Youth Week.
A diverse series of events tailored to suit the needs of young people will take place between Friday, April 13, and Saturday, April 21, and will include skateboarding, hip-hop workshops, basketball, swimming and a movie night.
Youth Week WA Youth Ambassador David Castelanelli and Youth Involvement Council member Najiyah Rampton will speak at the launch of Youth Week, which is set to take place on April 13 at South Hedland Skate Park.
Freestyle Now is scheduled to provide a BMX workshop which will run before formalities from 4pm-5pm and after formalities from 5.30pm-7pm.
After the workshops, the Town has worked with Mingle Mob and local police to host a skate rave, which will be held between 7pm and 9pm.
Mayor Camilo Blanco said the 2018 theme Light It Up was a motivating call for young people to build confidence and reach their potential.
He said the events were designed to celebrate young people in the community while promoting physical activity and friendship.
“This is the biggest youth event on the Hedland calendar,” he said.
“It is an opportunity to bring young people together in a fun and positive environment.
“As a town, it is vital that we celebrate our young people and realise they will shape our community’s future.
“It’s also important that we remember to support our young people and listen to them throughout the year.”
Youth Week is an initiative supported by local agencies including WA Police, YMCA, Garnduwa, Helping Minds, Wirraka Maya, Fortescue Minerals Group, Charter Hall, YIC and Mingle Mob.
