Hedland youngsters have begun training before the start of the hockey season with a come-andtry night held last Thursday.

The event, organised by Hedland Hockey Club, attracted youngsters from South and Port before the season starts officially on Saturday, May 5 — while another try night is scheduled for May 3.

Club president Grit Andre said the event gave children the opportunity to practise their scoring and basics under the watch and instruction of senior coach Chad Latham.

“It was good to see familiar faces of children who played hockey last year and came back for more this season, but also meeting new families and their children who are enrolling for this year,” Andre said.

“It is great to see the excitement and smiles on the kids’ faces when taking up a new sport — as a club we enjoy not just bringing the love of hockey to everyone, but also enjoy the social side of being a small club.

“We are looking forward to or next try night being another success.”

Attendees were also treated to a free sausage sizzle, cold drinks and icy poles.
