A look at the 2018 Hur­ford Hard­wood Por­trait Prize

Lis­more’s es­teemed por­trait prize has at­tracted artists from all over the coun­try

More than 200 en­tries from ev­ery state and ter­ri­tory were re­ceived for this year’s $10,000 Hur­ford Hard­wood Prize, with the win­ning en­try com­ing from Syd­ney artist Ni­cole Kelly, for her por­trait of In­done­sian artist Ju­maadi, called Ju­maadi + Clouds + Rain. A to­tal of 69 artists were se­lected as fi­nal­ists in the bi­en­nial prize, 28 of them North­ern Rivers res­i­dents. Works in­clude paint­ings, draw­ings, pho­to­graphs, ceram­ics, and video por­traits. The Hur­ford Hard­wood Por­trait Prize is on show at the Lis­more Re­gional Gallery un­til Septem­ber 23.
