Your Nikon’s Mono­chrome mode doesn’t just save time later…

Why set the cam­era to mono mode when you can sim­ply con­vert a reg­u­lar colour im­age into black and white on the com­puter? It’s be­cause you need a black-and­white ‘eye’ to shoot good monochro­matic shots in the first place, and be­ing able to see the re­sults on the spot is a huge ad­van­tage. Shots which work in colour don’t nec­es­sar­ily con­vert well to black and white, but if you only shoot in colour you won’t find out how they con­vert un­til you get home, when it’s too late.
