WD My Cloud EX4 8TB

Back up your entire photo collection and access it worldwide

This hulking black box links straight to your internet router, giving you eight terabytes of networked attached storage spread over four hard drives. Windows, Mac and mobile apps then make it easy to access your files – including your photos – from anywhere with an internet connection.

With enough space for over 200,000 D800 RAW files, a hard drive failure would be disastrous. Hence WD preconfigures the EX4 to use RAID data protection, whereby if one of the four drives fails, the other three will piece together any lost data. The only downside is that outright storage space drops to ‘only’ six terabytes.

The EX4 is the ideal way to back up your entire photo and video collection and access it on the go. However if you don’t need something quite so capacious, it’s worth noting that plenty of dual-drive alternatives offer the same tech for a lot less cash.
