Revised and revitalised, the new ‘Rx’ versions of the popular Bowens heads now come complete with built-in RF (radio frequency) receivers. As with the Elinchrom kits and the Interfit EXD400 TI kit, a hot shoe-mounting RF transmitter is also included, but setting the sync channel for it is a bit more long-winded on the Bowens kit.

Build quality is impressive throughout, although the updated flash heads still have a slightly utilitarian, industrial feel. The power output is wide-ranging, equating to apertures from f/3.2 to f/18 (five stops) in our tests, but the basic rotary control knob lacks the finesse of up/down push-button switches plus a digital display. The kit includes two reflectors and two umbrellas, which have removable coverings so can be used as silver, white or translucent.
