55 Shooting animals in the wild often means hours of waiting for the briefest of encounters, so you need to have your SLR skills honed to perfection if you are not going to waste the few opportunit­ies you get to take great pictures. But how do you get the hang of photograph­ing creatures quickly? The answer is to visit nearby parks, game reserves and zoos. The animals there will be more used to humans, and they’re in confined areas, but you can still learn many of the techniques you will need just as well as in the wild. The focusing and framing techniques you need will be very similar.
