Launched 2011

The D5100 is now three years old, and has been superseded by the D5200 and D5300, but it’s still a fine camera.

4fps shooting

It’s still not fast by current standards, but the D5100’s continuous mode is adequate for relatively slow-paced action photography.

16.2 megapixel DX sensor

The resolution advantage is small, but this is a newer sensor with better colour rendition and lower noise.

ISO100-6400, expandable to ISO25600

The increased ISO range makes the D5100 more effective in low light than the older, more basic D3100.
