Don’t get so caught up by the big things – the sweeping landscapes and sprawling UNESCO World Heritage sites – that you forget the tiny details. Some of these can be far more interesting and characteristic of your destination. Nikon has a great range of macro lenses that will allow you to focus close enough to get frame-filling shots of small subjects. (See page 90 for our roundup of budget prime macro lenses.) I always travel with a Nikon AF-S 60mm f/2.8. It is a good back-up standard lens in case of equipment issues and will allow me to focus as close as a few inches.
