You don’t ad­just the shut­ter speed to con­trol ex­po­sure with flash – aper­ture and flash power are key

Work­ing out the ex­po­sure for flash is dif­fer­ent to do­ing it for nor­mal light­ing. The length of the ex­po­sure is fixed by the du­ra­tion of the flash, and this will de­pend on the flash be­ing used and its power set­ting. You con­trol the ex­po­sure us­ing the flash power set­ting and the lens aper­ture, or you leave this to the cam­era to work out for you.
